As a wood fence ages, its pickets shrink, resulting in a sliver of space between each picket. Batten boards are thin lengths of wood that conceal the gaps between your wood fence pickets. Have you ever seen a wood fence with thin strips of wood covering the gaps between pickets? If so, you were looking at a fence with Batten Boards. So if you live in an area susceptible to flooding and want a wood fence with a little more durability, steel posts may be the upgrade you need. And because the steel that Texas Fence uses to reinforce wood fences is galvanized, it will withstand rainfall without rusting for at least a couple of decades. Unlike pressurized wood, steel does not absorb ground water, which is why fences with wooden posts weaken over time. Although there’s no absolute way to guarantee a fence won’t fall over in the event of a tropical storm or a hurricane, using steel posts on your wood fence instead of pressurized wood is one way to minimize the chance of your fence being uprooted. Have you ever seen a wooden fence fall over after a storm? (We’ve seen plenty). What you may have noticed was a fence that was stained when you weren’t looking.Īs we covered in our fence stain blog, staining your fence with Wood Defender® Stain & Sealant is a great way to protect your investment and add years to the life of your fence while making it look like new again. If you’re extra observant, you might even have noticed a fence go from gray and fading to looking like new over night without any sign of a construction crew. Maybe you’ve seen your own fence lose its color as the years go by. One fence might appear gray while the fence next to it is a deep reddish-brown color. One thing you might notice when walking around a neighborhood with wood fences is that each fence varies in shade. If you have a relatively lax HOA, here are some fence options you can apply to your new wood fence and why they may come in handy. But the best way to know for sure is to directly reach out to your HOA or city council. You can read about the Five Common Fencing Standards that HOAs, POAs, and City Councils Enforce if you want to learn about some of the standards that might affect what you can and can’t do with your fence. One thing to remember before you begin exploring options for your new wood fence is that your homeowner’s associations may only allow certain design features if any at all. Other wood fence options can add privacy to your yard or home, and some options can even increase the lifetime of your fence. Some wood fence options simply make the fence look unique while others improve the fence’s structural integrity. You may even take to Pinterest to explore new fence styles and features to plan an upgrade for your home only to come up empty handed when searching for names of different styles and why each style is important. Glass panels is the ultimate way to secure your outdoor pool area with style.Have you ever passed a wood fence with distinct features and wondered what those features were called or why they were there? Prime 95 Prime95 – CPU Stress Testing Software These CPU stress testing software will thoroughly test the limits of your CPU. Here’s the list of the best CPU stress testing software available in the market. It’s a great way to show off how capable your system is, and the best way to see these capabilities in action. People use stress testing as a way to show off how durable their PC components are. Depending on how well it handles the workload, you could end up getting a better idea of what your computer can and cannot handle in terms of performance. This is the first test your computer gets to take at the limits of its potential. But if it doesn’t and you let it run for long enough, there’s something else that could happen. When you use stress test software, the first thing that could happen is that, depending on how much of a beating you put it through, your computer could crash. Depending on how you go about it, stress testing can tell you a lot more about your computer. The basic idea behind stress testing is to test the capabilities of your CPU and RAM. They’ll end up running for an hour or two at most. Some people like to do their stress testing job in a loop, with the programs looping continuously till they’ve completed. Not only will it feel as though somewhere along the line, something has gone wrong, but it probably will. If you aren’t running applications alongside a stress test, then your computer could start to perform quite poorly after a while. Not only do they put immense amounts of power through your CPU in order to process the workloads, but also place a high requirement on RAM as well. Stress test programs put an insane amount of strain on your system components. In fact, if used on a regular basis, it could very likely shorten the life of your CPU. Before we get started, it’s important to note that stress testing isn’t something you do every day. The team had 25 seconds to provide two answers for each of these five letters, playing through them in an order specified by the host. One final category was played, with each celebrity giving one answer that started with a different assigned letter. Teams remained on the show until they were defeated or won five consecutive matches. In the event of a tie, a toss-up similar to the first-round starter was played the first contestant to buzz in and give an acceptable response won the game for his/her team. The high scorers at the end of the second round won the game and $500. All responses and challenges were worth two points in the second round, and initial control was given to the leading team. Two rounds were played, with each team having control for one turn per round. Some former contestants were invited to serve as judges during the latter portion of the run. Later, the toss-up was dropped and the challengers played first. The team scored one additional point for each panelist's response that was not on their list.Įarly in the show's run, the host stated a category/letter at the beginning of the first round, and the first contestant to buzz in and give an acceptable response scored one point and secured initial control for his/her team. After the challenges were finished (if any), the team chose four celebrity panelists, one at a time, whose responses to the category/letter were then played back. The team in control gained or lost one point for each response accepted or rejected by the panel, respectively. Challenges were settled by a majority vote among a panel of five judges chosen from the studio audience. The team scored one point for each answer given within the time limit, after which the opposing team was then given an opportunity to challenge any responses they believed were unacceptable. No contestant could give two consecutive responses, and an individual word could be used in no more than two answers. Contestants had to raise their hands before answering, and could not confer with their teammates. The team in control was given 15 seconds to name up to six items that fit a stated category and began with a specified letter of the alphabet. Instead of being physically present in the studio, though, the panelists videotaped their responses to the game questions in advance they also recorded introductions for the host and dialogues leading into and out of commercial breaks. The show was based on the board game of the same name and featured a panel of five celebrities. Two teams of four competed on each episode, one team consisting entirely of women and the other of men. Share on Pinterest Kristin McKee/Stocksy United Regarding SBS and lifestyle behaviors in children, research has shown that foregoing breakfast, eating too many snacks/sweets, irregular bowel movements, high durations of daily TV watching, and sleep problems are related to adverse eye, nasal, and general symptoms. The lifestyle behaviors adopted by children are an important factors in long-term health effects. Regarding indoor chemicals, epidemiological studies conducted in both Malaysia and Japan have shown that substances such as formaldehyde are associated with increasing building-related symptoms in children. Further, children with doctor-diagnosed atopy and rhinitis tend to have associations with the incidence of SBS than children without these diseases. Research has also indicated that dampness in the home and/or school can increase SBS for school children. Previous SBS studies that include children have revealed many potential variables, such as sex, age, asthma/allergies, dampness, poor ventilation, and biological/chemical agents. Indeed, the number of SBS reports has decreased considerably since that time. Relevant construction guidelines ensure proper ventilation and limited concentrations of indoor chemicals, such as formaldehyde. As such, the Japanese government established enforceable prevention measures through the Building Standard Act, which has applied to new buildings since 2003. In Japan, many residences built since the 1990s were designed to ensure airtight spaces however, previous research suggested that this poses SBS risks for occupants. The term sick building syndrome (SBS) refers to non-specific mucosal, skin, and general symptoms that are caused by exposure to a specific building environment. Lifestyle (e.g., eating and sleeping habits) and home (i.e., dampness) improvements might alleviate SBS symptoms in children. Further, dampness at home was associated with increase in all SBS symptoms. ConclusionsĪllergies and lifestyle behaviors were associated with increased SBS in children, including skipping breakfast, displaying faddiness, constipation, insufficient sleep, not feeling refreshed after sleep, and the lack of deep sleep. Home dampness was an independent variable in increasing all SBS symptoms. Considering children’s home, old building, no ventilation, wall-to-wall carpet, and heavy nearby traffic were associated with elevated mucosal symptom, while living in a multifamily home increased general symptoms. We found no significant relationship between SBS in children and schools. The stepwise analysis showed faddiness for mucosal symptoms and not feeling refreshed after sleep for mucosal and skin symptoms, whereas constipation and lacking deep sleep for general symptoms were independent variables in increasing the symptoms. Children who skipped breakfast, displayed faddiness (like/dislike of food), had constipation, have insufficient sleep, did not feel refreshed after sleep, and lacked deep sleep showed significantly high odds ratios with SBS symptoms. The presence of one or more allergy was associated with increased mucosal and skin symptoms. Participants revealed mucosal (6.9%), skin (2.0%), and general (0.8%) symptoms. A stepwise backward elimination was conducted to assess independent variables related to SBS. A logistic regression analysis was conducted to evaluate the associations between SBS symptoms and variables by controlling the potential confounders (gender, grade, school, and parental history of allergies). The Japanese version of the International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood questionnaire was used to assess wheeze, rhino-conjunctivitis, and eczema. SBS was determined on parental answers to MM080 standardized school questionnaires on symptoms that were weekly experienced by these children, and if the symptom is attributed to their home or school environment. MethodsĪ total of 4408 elementary school children living in Sapporo City, Japan participated in this study. This study investigated the associations of children’s lifestyle behaviors, allergies, home, and school environment with SBS symptoms. Sick building syndrome (SBS) refers to the combination of symptoms experienced by occupants of specific building characteristics. |
